Andy Mullen is a “folk-fusion” artist from New York. He describes his style as “a little bit of Bluegrass, Country, Old Time, Celtic, Americana and Jazz” and that pretty much sums up this new offering from his website www.AndyMullenMusic.com.
We first heard about Andy through Ken and Phil over at FolkCast - who showcased a track from this completely free release on their podcast this month.
‘The Toenail Jar’ is available as a FREE download from www.AndyMullenMusic.com, along with a collection of live performances etc which you can get in the ‘Freebies’ section of his site!

Yes, that’s right! Our latest free and legal downloads come courtesy of Ben Hammond, proud winner of the 2008 John Lennon Songwriting Award.
Applause!
The tracks available via his Jamendo page include 2 tracks from his latest CD “Reasonably Honest”, and 4 from his earlier EP “No History Sessions”.
Ben describes his music as Acoustic Soul-Pop, “ranging from New Zealand influenced reggae styles through to theremin-tinged Twang-rock”. Nice.
You can visit Ben’s website at www.BenHammondMusic.com, or that Jamendo link again… http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/Ben_Hammond/.

It’s always nice when you receive an email from a band that has really made an effort. Not just with the music, but with the whole package, y’know… the promo material, the website, etc. Of course, it helps if you have a graphic design degree, but still..
Asthmaboy are Glindon Marten and John Boone, and they’ve made their full length album “Later Days” available to download completely free.
Influences include Sigur Ros, Beirut, Radiohead, The White Stripes, Outkast, Gorillaz, Cat Stevens… and many other bands I’ve never heard of! Quite an eclectic mix which does come across in the music.
Download “Later Days” now from www.asthmaboymusic.com or visit their Myspace Page.

Valiant Hum are a 4-piece Acoustic/Rock band from Auckland, New Zealand.
Their sound is definitely airing towards melodic rock, and the production on this free album is pretty much spot on.
There are no catches with this one, just visit the website and download the tracks. The only thing is you have to download each track individually - bit of pain, but worth it in the end.
If I were you, I’d definitely get yourself a copy of Wonderland, which you can by heading over to the band’s own website @ www.valianthum.com.

guardian.co.uk, the online version of the UKs The Guardian newspaper, have secured an exclusive Bob Dylan MP3 download.
The track, Mississipi, was recorded in 1997 during the sessions for Bob’s Time Out of Mind album, and did feature on the final record. This download however is a never-before-released, early stripped-down version.
Of course, being a record label promo, you have to give away some details in order to gain access. Still, you can opt out of the inevitable mailings.
Sign up and download the track now from www.guardian.co.uk.
