Sparkling White present their self-titled debut EP - 4 tracks of pop/rock mastery, completely free!
They say… “We love music and love creating music. We want to play/tour/record a full album as soon as practically possible. We feel comfortable enough with the quality of these recordings and just want to use this EP to get our music out there and heard.”
You can download the 4-tracks and cover artwork now from www.musoswebs.com/users/sparklingwhite/.

Back To Work Records have come up with a nice idea to promote their bands’ music - Virtual Vinyl.
From their website… “Virtual Vinyl is a series offering free Back to Work Records releases via the Web. Harking back to the days of yesteryear, when bands released 7-inch singles comprised of an A-side and B-side, Back to Work Records’ artists will do the same. However, instead of releasing tangible vinyl records, songs will be available for free download in MP3 format.”
So, not strictly a free album or EP then, but an interesting promotion concept that I thought was worth mentioning.
The first in the series comes from The Mirror Orchid, an indie/pop outfit from Maryland. This “virtual vinyl” contains “My Dedication” and “A Thousand Miles” (probably not the Vanessa Carlton track!).
You can download the MP3s directly from Back To Work Records.

Yes, that’s right! Our latest free and legal downloads come courtesy of Ben Hammond, proud winner of the 2008 John Lennon Songwriting Award.
Applause!
The tracks available via his Jamendo page include 2 tracks from his latest CD “Reasonably Honest”, and 4 from his earlier EP “No History Sessions”.
Ben describes his music as Acoustic Soul-Pop, “ranging from New Zealand influenced reggae styles through to theremin-tinged Twang-rock”. Nice.
You can visit Ben’s website at www.BenHammondMusic.com, or that Jamendo link again… http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/Ben_Hammond/.

The Bastard Fairies describe their music as oxymoronic, naughty but nice. Sounds lovely.
Hailing from Minneapolis, The Bastard Fairies are a 2-peice with a Mac, a copy of Garage Band, and a bunch old guitars and children’s toys.
“Memento Mori” was originally released free, as a 12 track download, but has since been released as a deluxe 17 track CD+DVD collection.
The free version is still available however, and can be downloaded from www.thebastardfairies.com.

A few days ago we told you about Brad Sucks - an independent artist with an eye to the future of music distribution.
Well, I’ve just received notification from Brad that his new album “Out Of It” is now available from www.bradsucks.net.
The new album is released under the same idea as Brad’s first record. Buy the CD and get the MP3s immediately, or just buy the downloads. And set your own price. It’s obviously a model that’s working for him.
You can buy/download “Out Of It” from www.bradsucks.net/albums/out_of_it/ now.
What do you think? Does Brad really Suck? Or is he onto something? Why not share your thoughts and opinions by commenting on this post…

The Idlers are an Indie / Pop band from Lincoln in the UK.
Like many bands trying to build a profile in these digital times, they are using free music as an incentive to get you to join their mailing list. Subscribe, and you get 2 exclusive demo tracks. And of course all their latest news delivered regularly to your inbox.
There are also 2 free tracks available on the Music section of their website, www.TheIdlers.com.

Brad Sucks is an indepdent artist doing something really different.
First off, his album is available for FREE from the Brad Sucks website (either as single downloads or a ZIP file). You can donate if you like, or you can buy the CD if you prefer owning records.
Not only that, but if you become a “Best Friend Forever”, you’ll get access to a bunch more freebies including remixes, demos, covers and song parts for making your own remixes.
The BFF concept is neat way of getting people signed up for the Brad Sucks mailing list, to keep you informed of upcoming gigs/releases etc. However, Brad has made something more here… he’s added value with the BFF-only freebies and a message board, giving something back as a thank you for subscribing. Independent bands should take note!
The music is pure electro-pop (drum machines and accoustic guitars, with some heavy guitars thrown in for good measure). Definitely worth a listen, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on Brad here at NMO!
You can (and should) visit Brad at www.bradsucks.net.
